Australian racing driver Jack Doohan is set to join Formula 1 next season as Alpine's newest driver. The son of five-time motorcycle world champion Mick Doohan, Jack will team up with Pierre Gasly for the French team. He will take over the seat from Esteban Ocon, who will be moving to Haas next season.

At just 21 years old, he has been a racing prodigy since his early teens, competing globally in karting and various Formula championships.

Doohan described the announcement as "a dream come true" while acknowledging the sacrifices made by his family.

"It’s an incredibly surreal feeling to secure my future with Alpine as a Formula 1 driver for 2025," he shared on social media.

"This is a dream realized, but it wouldn’t have been possible without significant personal sacrifices from both myself and my family.

"I am fully committed to seizing this opportunity and will leave no stone unturned, both on and off the track."

Doohan, who finished second in the 2021 Formula 3 championship and again in the Formula 2 championship in 2022, has been serving as a reserve driver for Alpine since 2023, following the departure of fellow Australian Oscar Piastri to McLaren.

Alpine famously announced Oscar Piastri as their driver for the 2023 season, only for Piastri to publicly declare that no agreement had been finalized.

Piastri subsequently signed with McLaren, leaving Alpine in an awkward position.

The season's opening race will take place in Melbourne at Albert Park on March 16.
