Although WWE legend Sid Vicious' pro wrestling career didn't fully realize its potential, his life was certainly one for the books. He was known for a dramatic and bloody brawl in Blackburn and a shocking leg break on live TV.
Sid Vicious, born Sid Eudy and also known as Sycho Sid, passed away on Monday at the age of 63 after a prolonged struggle with cancer. His son, Gunner, shared the news, honoring his father's remarkable strength both inside and outside the wrestling ring.
"Dear friends and family, it is with great sadness that I announce the passing of my father, Sid Eudy, who fought bravely against cancer for several years," Gunner wrote. "He was a man of immense strength, kindness, and love, and he will be profoundly missed.
The statement continued: "We are grateful for your thoughts and prayers during this time of grief. We will share details about the memorial service soon. Thank you for your support."
As a leading villain in both WWF and WCW, Sid Eudy enjoyed a successful wrestling career that included championship titles in both organizations. The Arkansas native was a two-time WWF World Champion, a two-time WCW Heavyweight Champion, and a former WCW United States Heavyweight Champion.
Eudy's impact extended beyond the ring into real-life drama. One notorious episode familiar to wrestling fans is his altercation with Arn Anderson during a WCW tour in England. This infamous brawl in Blackburn involved a group of inebriated wrestlers, broken beer bottles, a chair, and a pair of scissors.
Far from their scripted performances, a real-life incident erupted in a hotel bar after their long journey from the States. According to Pro Wrestling Stories, the altercation began when Eudy made a remark about 'old man' Ric Flair taking all the spotlight and money in the industry.
Eudy recounted the incident, saying, "I said, 'You want to know what's wrong with our business? We have an old man like Ric Flair who needs to get the f*** out of the way!'"
Defending his friend, Anderson quickly got involved, leading to a heated verbal exchange and beers flying across the bar. When things calmed down, Eudy decided to take matters into his own hands as everyone retired to their rooms.
Eudy recounted, "As I was heading to my room, Arn Anderson and a group of others were in the hallway. He smashed a beer bottle and threatened to cut me," according to PWS.
Once safely in his room, Eudy grabbed a hotel chair and went to Anderson's room. However, after assessing the level of intoxication, he chose not to use it. When Anderson emerged, Eudy saw him standing in the doorway with a pair of scissors. Eudy recalled, "I turned around, saw him with the scissors, and said, 'Hey man, this has gone too f***ing far.' But he kept coming at me."
The confrontation escalated, with the scissors causing a bloody mess in the hotel hallway. The situation would have been even more dire if fellow wrestlers hadn't intervened after hearing the commotion.
Both men ended up in the hospital: Anderson with twenty stab wounds to his chest and stomach, and Eudy with four, as reported by PWS.
Despite the severity of the incident, neither man pressed charges. They exchanged apologies and reconciled. However, WCW President Eric Bischoff fired Eudy after several wrestlers threatened to leave if he wasn't terminated, while Anderson faced only a suspension.
Years later, Eudy would find himself involved in another grim incident, though it unfolded offscreen.
