Good news for Jordan Love and the Green Bay Packers: According to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network, initial tests show that Love’s ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) is intact, though further evaluation will be needed once the team returns to Green Bay to determine the full extent of his knee injury.
Love sustained the injury during the third-to-last play of the Packers' 34-29 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles on Friday night in Brazil. The injury occurred when he was hit on the side of his left knee. Dianna Russini of The Athletic reports that an ankle injury has been ruled out, so additional tests will be conducted to pinpoint the exact nature of the damage to his knee.
The fact that Love's ACL appears to be intact eliminates one major concern that could have ended his 2024 season. On-field tests, such as the Lachman Test, are commonly used to assess ACL integrity and knee stability. The Packers’ medical team likely had an early assessment of the ACL's condition following the injury.
The Packers are on their way back from Sao Paulo, facing a flight of over 10 hours. Once they land in Green Bay on Saturday afternoon, further diagnostic imaging will be conducted on Jordan Love's injury.
With the Packers now at 0-1 following Friday night’s loss, their next game is against the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday, September 15. In the meantime, the backup quarterbacks are Malik Willis, who was acquired in a trade with the Tennessee Titans before final cuts, and Sean Clifford, a 2023 fifth-round pick who served as Love’s backup last season.
